Trees Affected? Many people ask us how a tree is affected when the branches are cut to give us the material needed to make our wreaths. We are here to tell you no trees are cut down or harmed for the production of our wreaths or other products! Why? In New Brunswick, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) issues licenses to those who wish to harvest branches (tips) off Crown land. These licenses are only issued once our northern forests experience at least 3 consecutive days of frost. This allows the tree to go dormant ensuring both the tree being unaffected and moisture being trapped in the needles for longevity of freshness. In addition, the DNR has strict tipping rules (use browser back arrow to get back to this page) to follow such as only allowing the tips to be harvested from the bottom 2 thirds of a tree ensuring the tree grows straight and tall and only allowing tipping off trees that are over 10 feet tall. In effect the tipping process acts like a hair cut for these strong and fragrant balsam fir trees allowing them to grow taller and stronger in the process. We believe in protecting our great northern forest not only for our business supply of tips but for our children and for generations to follow. Recycling: We encourage our customers to recycle their gift boxes, wreaths and other balsam products received once the season is over. The branches can be cut off and the wire ring and spooling wire put into your recycling bins. Please use caution when cutting off the branches as the spooling wire can cut through your skin if pressed too hard. We would recommend the use of work gloves for this process.
